Finding the Right Parts for Your Gate These spindle rods are designed to be used with pressure-mounted gates only. Pressure-mounted gates are installed by tightening the spindle rods against the surrounding wall or doorframe, creating tension that holds the gate securely in place. Hardware-mounted gates, on the other hand, are installed by screwing manufacturer-provided hardware into the walls, then connecting the gate.

If you're unsure which size will fit your pressure-mounted gate, you can measure the holes that the spindle rods go into to determine the correct size yourself. An M8 screw's true diameter will measure slightly less than 8mm, so it will fit nicely into an 8-9mm hole. An M10 screw's true diameter will measure slightly less than 10mm, and will fit nicely into a 10mm hole.
